Money - Lottery winning jackpot.

BROOK PARK, OH – Judy, a local resident of Brook Park, is celebrating a surprising win of $10,000 from the Ohio Lottery’s Bingo Times 25 scratch-off game.

During a routine check of her tickets using the Ohio Lottery app, Judy discovered what she initially thought was a $5 win was actually $10. But the real shock came with another ticket that she scanned. “It absolutely surprised the heck out of me,” Judy said, describing her reaction when the app revealed a $10,000 win. Despite her knack for predicting wins when scratching, this time she missed the signs until reviewing the ticket.

Judy’s winning ticket came from Smith & Snow Shell, located at 5918 Smith Rd in Brook Park. After the mandatory state and federal taxes, which total 28%, she will take home about $7,200.

With her winnings, Judy plans to save for a trip abroad next year. She also intends to allocate funds for minor car repairs and assist a close friend in need of financial support.

Bingo Times 25 offers a top prize of $100,000 and is priced at $5 per ticket. As of August 9, there are four top prizes still available.

Arrests Made in Connection to Friends Star Matthew Perry’s Fatal Overdose

LOS ANGELES, CA—A physician and a reputed drug dealer have been arrested in Los Angeles for their alleged roles in the ketamine overdose death of actor Matthew Perry in October 2023. The arrests are part of a broader case involving five defendants charged with various offenses related to Perry's death.

Today, Jasveen Sangha, 41, known as "The Ketamine Queen" of North Hollywood, and Dr. Salvador Plasencia, 42, of Santa Monica, were arraigned on multiple charges including conspiracy to distribute ketamine. The charges stem from an 18-count superseding indictment focusing on their distribution of ketamine to Perry during his final weeks.

Sangha faces additional charges including maintaining a drug-involved premises and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and ketamine. Plasencia is charged with several counts of ketamine distribution and falsifying documents related to the investigation.

United States Attorney Martin Estrada condemned the defendants for prioritizing profit over Perry's well-being, stressing the severe consequences of dealing dangerous substances. LAPD Chief Dominic Choi and DEA Administrator Anne Milgram also highlighted the coordinated effort required to bring these individuals to justice.

The superseding indictment details a disturbing pattern of behavior by the accused, including the direct involvement of Kenneth Iwamasa, Perry's personal assistant, who is said to have injected Perry with ketamine under Plasencia's guidance. Dr. Mark Chavez, another physician involved, admitted to obtaining and selling ketamine used in the incidents leading to Perry's death.

This case highlights ongoing efforts by federal and local authorities to combat the illegal distribution of controlled substances, even involving medical professionals, and to hold accountable those responsible for drug-related deaths.

New York Men Arrested for Presence at January 6 Capitol Incursion

WASHINGTON, DC—Two New York men, Charles E. Schimmel, 53, and Logan Schimmel, 23, both from Prattsburgh, were arrested today on charges related to their alleged involvement in the January 6, 2021, breach of the U.S. Capitol. The charges, filed in the District of Columbia, include a felony for obstructing law enforcement during a civil disorder and several misdemeanors.

The FBI conducted the arrests on August 14, 2024, and the Schimmels made their initial court appearance in the Western District of New York.

They are accused of participating actively in the events of January 6, starting with the "Stop the Steal" rally and culminating in their entry into the Capitol.

Court documents detail the Schimmels’ alleged actions, describing how they pushed against police lines and maneuvered through the crowd to enter the Capitol building.

Once inside, they reportedly visited several significant locations including the Rotunda and the Speaker of the House office suite, before exiting approximately an hour later.

Following their departure from the building, the Schimmels allegedly continued to confront police officers on Capitol grounds, resisting efforts to clear the area. They were reportedly among the last rioters to be moved from the scene.

The case continues to develop as authorities proceed with legal actions against individuals involved in the Capitol breach.

New Jersey Court System Discriminated Against Non-English Speaking Defendents

NEWARK, NJ—The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey and the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division announced a settlement with the Monmouth Vicinage Courts (MVC) regarding allegations of discrimination. The agreement resolves claims that MVC discriminated against court users with limited English proficiency (LEP) and retaliated against an employee who reported the discrimination, violating Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger emphasized the importance of equal access to the court system, stating that the agreement ensures that LEP individuals in Monmouth County will receive fair treatment.

Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke highlighted the critical nature of removing language barriers in courts, noting that such barriers can significantly impact fundamental rights.

The investigation identified several issues, including the refusal to provide interpreters and inadequate translation of vital documents, which hindered LEP individuals' access to justice. In response, the New Jersey Judiciary has committed to translating essential court forms and materials and improving staff training on language access and non-retaliation policies.

Additionally, the New Jersey Judiciary will revise its language access plan and implement mandatory training programs. The agreement also includes an $89,718 compensation payment to the employee who faced retaliation.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office and the Civil Rights Division will monitor compliance with these commitments over the next two years.

For more information on civil rights enforcement and resources for LEP individuals, visit the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division websites.
